Grief and End of Life

$45 per hour (2 hour minimum)

An end-of-life doula, is a non-medical professional who provides emotional, spiritual and logistical support to a person who is dying and their family.  They can help with everything from explaining the dying process to assisting with legacy work, funeral planning, and providing companionship during the final days and weeks, similar to how a birth doula supports a new mother.

Services offered by death doulas

  • Emotional and spiritual support: Helping the dying person and their family process fears, make sense of the experience, and have meaningful conversations about life and death.
  • Logistical support: Assisting with end-of-life planning, such as funeral arrangements, and helping to communicate with hospice workers and other caregivers.
  • In-person companionship: Providing a calm presence and acting as a vigil companion during the last days and hours, offering comfort through touch or massage if desired.
  • Caregiver assistance: Offering respite to family members who are providing care, which can prevent burnout and exhaustion.
  • Legacy work: Helping individuals create a legacy, such as writing letters, making recordings, or establishing a memorial garden.
  • Guidance: Educating the individual and their loved ones about the common signs and symptoms of the dying process
